More details emerge in murder case of Citibank executive Marianne

As the search for the killer of Marianne Kilonzi intensifies, more information is coming to light about her death.

Marianne, 43, was vice-president of trade and working capital sales at financial giant Citibank. She had been working there for more than 18 years.

She was found dead at around 5.25pm on Friday at her flat in Argyll Road, Woolwich.

Police were called to her home following reports of concerns for her welfare.

A post mortem has confirmed that blunt force trauma and head injury were the cause of death.

Detectives are saying they believe the killer was known to Ms Kilonzi and it is believed they have an unnamed suspect in mind. Lines of inquiry also centre on the possibility that the killer has fled the country, a Met spokesman has confirmed.

Various news outlets have reported how neighbours have told how they heard “blood-curdling screams” in the run-up to Ms Kilonzi’s death.

One is quoted as saying: “The poor woman was inside the flat with the door bolted. The police got in somehow but it was too late.”

Another said detectives told him they were investigating reports of a “noisy disturbance” four days before the body was found.

He said: “The police came around and asked me some questions. An officer asked me if I had heard anything coming from her flat between 3am and 4am on Monday.

“It appears that had been a noisy disturbance at that time. Sadly, I couldn’t help them because I didn’t hear anything.”

DCI Suzanne Soren of the specialist crime south, said: “We believe the suspect was known to Marianne and there is no wider risk to the public.

“This is a tragic crime and our thoughts at this incredibly difficult time are with Marianne’s loved ones and colleagues.”

Citibank have issued a statement saying: “We are deeply saddened by the tragic loss of our colleague. Our thoughts are with Marianne’s family and friends during this difficult time.”

An appeal has been made for information. The Met are inviting calls to 101 quoting ref: CAD 5231/17Jan.
