MP pays Christmas visit to hospital ward he grew up on
Liam Conlon MP has paid a Christmas visit to the hospital ward he grew up on to thank NHS staff.
On Monday, the Labour MP for Beckenham and Penge visited staff and patients at the Royal London Hospital in Whitechapel Road, Tower Hamlets.
During his visit, he thanked staff working on the ward that he spent time on as a child following an accident, and spoke to children and families spending time over Christmas on the ward.
MP Conlon said: “It was really special to be back at the Royal London Hospital today, to say thank you to the NHS staff working over Christmas.
“I spent years on the children’s ward at the Royal London after an accident at 13. I had nearly ten major operations here as a teenager, and I will forever be grateful for the care I received.
“It’s the first time I’ve been back since being elected as an MP – and as I said to the staff today – I am determined to use my voice as an MP to fight for the NHS, just like the NHS fought for me”.
Fiona Lodge, associate director of nursing for children’s services at the Royal London Hospital, thanked the South London MP for his visit.
She said: “Our staff do all they can to support patients and their families over the festive period.
“Thank you to Liam for recognising the hard work of our teams and for the kind gifts that will make our patient’s stays a little brighter.”
