Neighbouring homes evacuated as derelict house goes up in flames

A derelict house was severely damaged in an early morning blaze – but the cause of the fire has yet to be established.

Six fire engines and about 40 firefighters were called out to Davidson Road in Croydon in the early hours of yesterday morning.

The ground floor and stairs in the end-of-terrace house were completely destroyed by fire. Most of the first floor of the house was also damaged by the blaze.

About 14 residents from neighbouring properties were evacuated. Thankfully, no injuries were reported.

The London Fire Brigade was called shortly after 2.30am and the incident was over by 6am. Fire crews from Woodside, Croydon, Beckenham, West Norwood and Norbury fire stations were at the scene.

The cause of the fire is under investigation by fire investigators and the Met.
