NHS data shows 54% of Lambeth smokers quit this year
More than half of smokers in Lambeth who set a quit date, have successfully stopped smoking this year, according to new NHS data.
The online data, released today by Hayppy, shows that 54 per cent of smokers in the South London borough have kept to their target and quit smoking this year.
The data also shows that the Government spent £126,736 on stop smoking campaigns and services in Lambeth alone – an average cost of £1,267 per successful quitter.
Quitting smoking strategies vary, but one method which has proved helpful for many is switching to a less harmful nicotine product.
In Lambeth 52 per cent of people managed to quit smoking by using a nicotine replacement therapy product, such as nicotine pouches or patches.
Markus Lindblad, from Haypp, said: “The national harm reduction strategy, including switching to alternative, less harmful nicotine products, such as nicotine pouches, has been key to the UK being one of the most successful countries in Europe in reducing the number of smokers overall.
“There are also several other possible contributing factors to these success rates, including local councils offering nicotine replacement therapy, free vape starter kits, online courses, and in person, one-to-one or group, support.
“All of these methods are excellent resources to help people quit smoking for good.”
