Residents fearful after woman stabbed heard ‘screaming’

Residents have been left fearful after a woman could be heard screaming following a stabbing in a residential road on Saturday.

Cops were called to Deronda Road, between Tulse Hill and Brockwell Park, at around 3.40am following reports of an “altercation”.

Arriving at the scene, police found a woman in her 20s suffering from a stab wound to her hip.

The young woman was taken to hospital by London Ambulance Service crews where her condition has been assessed as not life-threatening or life-changing, police said.

No arrests have been made as cops continue enquiries into the stabbing.

A mother living in Deronda Road, who asked not to be named, said: “The woman could be heard screaming.

“Then there were police cars and ambulances, and the police were taking people’s details.

We don’t know if other women have been attacked in the area or this is an isolated incident.”

The stabbing came one night after a number of cars were vandalised in the road.

The resident said: “About four of five cars were damaged. Someone had scratched X’s across them. People have said it’s at least £1,500 worth of repairs.

“This is a really quiet area so this spate of crime is really worrying.

“We don’t know if it is just a coincidence or if they are linked.”
