Teenager remains in hospital after New Year’s Day Brixton shooting

A teenager remains in hospital after he was shot in Brixton in the early hours of New Year’s Day.

The Met launched an investigation after police were called at around 1am on Monday to reports that a teenager had been found injured in Roycroft Close, Brixton.

Officers attended, along with paramedics from the London Ambulance Service. A 17-year-old boy was found suffering from a gunshot wound.

He was taken to hospital where his condition has since been assessed as not life-threatening.

His family have been informed, the Met said.

On Monday evening, a 16-year-old boy was arrested on suspicion of attempted murder – he has been bailed pending further enquiries to a date in March.

A spokesman from the Met said: “Enquiries are ongoing and any witnesses are asked to call 101 quoting CAD 541/01Jan.

“To remain anonymous contact the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.”
