Two people taken to hospital after flat fire

By Kelsey McCabe

Two people were taken to the hospital last night after a fire in a residential building.

The London fire brigade (LFB) was called to a house which had been converted into flats in Gloucester Street, Lambeth, at around 10pm after a fire broke out in the building.

Four fire engines and around 25 firefighters tackled the blaze, which damaged part of the stairwell between the first and second floors.

The fire was under control by 11.30pm, the LFB said, with two people led to safety by firefighters using fire escape hoods, which protect against main fire gases.

Crews from Lambeth, Chelsea, Clapham and Kensington fire stations attended the scene. The fire is under investigation by the Brigade and the Met.
