Wandsworth council offers free Christmas tree recycling service

By Charlotte Edwards

Wandsworth’s Christmas tree recycling service is back, offering residents free and sustainable options for recycling their Christmas trees.

From January 6, Wandsworth residents can leave their Christmas tree out on their usual collection day and the council will collect it for free.

Alternatively, to recycle Christmas trees before then, they can visit one of six drop-off sites listed on the council’s website.

Cllr Judi Gasser, Cabinet Member for Environment said: “We’re looking forward to bringing back our Christmas tree collection service this year.

“With even more drop-off sites, it’s easier than ever to sustainably dispose of your tree.”

The free collection service will run until January 31.

Helpful tips on how to position and prepare your tree can be found on the Wandsworth council website, which warns that all trees collected are sent for composting and so must be free from ornaments and stands.  Trees over 6ft are also barred from the scheme.

Any trees wrongfully left behind can be reported on the council website after 7pm on the day of collection.
