No starting spot for Phillips at Swindon as Charlton wait for “right offer” for last season’s Player of the Year

Dillon Phillips will not start Charlton’s EFL Cup tie at Swindon Town on Saturday – as manager Lee Bowyer waits for interested clubs to make an acceptable offer for the goalkeeper.

The 24-year-old was the club’s Player of the Year in the 2019-20 campaign.

But Bowyer told the South London Press earlier this week that Phillips is no longer first choice because he will not commit to a new contract. His current terms end in July.

Middlesbrough, Birmingham and Blackburn have all shown interest in the shotstopper, who came through the club’s academy.

“We’re just waiting for the right offer to come along,” said Bowyer. “If the right offer comes along then we’ll have a conversation.”

Ben Amos is set to play at the weekend. Ashley Maynard-Brewer was between the posts for Tuesday’s EFL Trophy loss to AFC Wimbledon.
