Norwich loanee’s absence at Accrington explained – as Charlton boss also provides update on former Palace keeper

Charlton Athletic manager Johnnie Jackson could have Akin Famewo back available for Tuesday’s home game against Gillingham after the Norwich City loanee missed Saturday’s 2-1 loss at Accrington due to illness.

The Addicks also had to name Nathan Harvey as their back-up goalkeeper with Nathan Harness unwell. Stephen Henderson – a more experienced back-up stopper – has been missing with a calf injury.

“Akin was ill and that was why he wasn’t involved,” said Jackson. “We’ll have to have a look at him this morning. So was Nathan, that was why Harvey was on the bench.

“Corey Blackett-Taylor is available. He trained a couple of times at the back end of last week but we didn’t want to take the risk at the weekend. He probably comes back to being available now.”

Former Palace keeper Henderson has been unavailable for the last five League One matches.

“It’s a muscle injury that he has been nursing but he is not far off being fit,” said Jackson. “Hopefully he can be re-integrated into training this week.”

Conor Washington made his return on Saturday from a muscle injury that had kept him out since early February. The Northern Ireland international replaced Jason Pearce in the 58th minute.

“Conor came through it fine,” said Jackson. “It’s good to have him back and he’s available.”
