Number of coronavirus patients at St George’s Hospital in Tooting remains low

The number of coronavirus patients at St George’s Hospital in Tooting remains low, although numbers have increased slightly over the last month.
As of Tuesday there were less than five positive patients being cared for in intensive care.
A further nine coronavirus patients were being cared for on hospital wards.
Just under a month ago, on September 30, there were no coronavirus patients being treated in intensive care.
Since March 2020, 300 patients have died at the hospital having tested positive for Covid-19.
The last coronavirus-related death at the hospital was on August 23.
A spokeswoman for St George’s Hospital said it was “well-equipped” to manage an increase in Covid-19 cases, both on wards and in intensive care.
She added: “Key for us – like the rest of the NHS – is to also continue carrying out routine operations as much as possible, which is an essential part of keeping our patients safe and well.
“For example, last week our teams carried out 440 operations (we carried out 495 operations during the same week last year, pre-Covid).
“Our message to the public would be to stay vigilant, follow the guidance but also – crucially – to continue accessing hospital services when they need to.
“Like all hospitals, we have put a range of measures in place to keep people safe.”
