Erith motorcycle racer, Casey O’Gorman didn’t round off his stint in the British Supersport Championship as he’d have hoped for with a thirteenth and a DNF in the final round on the Brands Hatch GP circuit last weekend.
Earning a ride with the OMG Racing team for the last two rounds, O’Gorman started the weekend off well, going third quickest in Friday’s wet practice session before dropping to eighth in qualifying to line up on the third row of the grid for the sprint race on the Saturday and main race on Sunday.
Saturday’s ten lap sprint race didn’t go as hoped for the 16 year old as he slipped back to thirteenth at the flag, just crossing the line ahead of Harvey Claridge riding in the GP2 class.
Things were looking up for the youngster on Sunday as he topped the morning practice session in the cold, dry conditions, knocking a further tenth of his qualifying time.
Off the lights for the 16 lap main race, O’Gorman got away well, moving up to seventh after the first lap before disaster struck a lap later as he got involved in an incident with the Suzuki’s of Rhys Irwin and Jamie Perrin, ending his ride in the gravel trap.
Despite a disappointing end to his Supersport ride, O’Gorman showed serious pace and will be hoping to carry that over to the final round of the Moto3 Junior World Championship on 4-5 November at Valencia, Spain.
