Oxford United v Charlton Athletic team news: Igor Vetokele misses out through injury as Bowyer makes three changes for Good Friday clash

Forward Igor Vetokele will sit out Charlton’s Good Friday trip to Oxford United.

The Angolan international has picked up a minor knock so will be one of three changes that Lee Bowyer makes from the side that ended league leaders Luton’s 28-game unbeaten run last weekend.

Vetokele scored the Addicks’ second goal in the 3-1 win at The Valley on Saturday but is absent today – it’s believed that the club hope he will be available for selection against Scunthorpe United on Easter Monday.

The 27-year-old’s absence means that Bowyer is expected to opt for a 4-3-3 formation, with Ben Reeves coming in to play alongside top-scorer Lyle Taylor and Jonny Williams in the front line.

The other changes both come in the back-four. Captain Jason Pearce will start at centre-half in place of Naby Sarr, who drops to the bench. Chris Solly was due to also start on the side-lines but will now fill in at left-back as Ben Purrington has been sent home from the Kassam Stadium an hour-and-a-half before kick-off due to illness. Anfernee Dijksteel will start at right-back.

Youngster Albie Morgan is also amongst the substitutes, with out-of-favour Tariqe Fosu and Mark Marshall both not featuring in the matchday squad at all. The bench is a man short due to Purrington’s late withdrawal.

Charlton: Phillips, Dijksteel, Bauer, Pearce, Solly, Cullen, Bielik, Aribo, Reeves, Taylor, Williams. Subs: Maxwell, Parker, Pratley, Morgan, Sarr, Lapslie.
