Person killed by train near Clapham Junction

A person has died after they were hit by a train near Clapham Junction railway station.

At around 1.30pm today the British Transport Police were called to an incident on the tracks where the person was pronounced dead at the scene. They said the death was not being treated as suspicious.

Southern Rail said in a statement: “It is with great sadness that we report a person has been hit by a train between London Victoria and Clapham Junction.

“One of the two lines in each direction are currently blocked between these stations while the emergency services work to deal with this incident.”

The operator said delays were to be expected.
