“Phenomenal” – Millwall man has played every minute in last 122 Championship matches

Millwall captain Alex Pearce has described Jake Cooper’s run of playing every minute in 122 consecutive Championship matches as “phenomenal”.

The centre-back, 25, has been an ever-present since November 18, 2017 – only sitting out the previous match against Burton Albion due to a suspension.

It means Cooper has played 183 hours of unbroken league action – and that number is actually more as it fails to take account of stoppage time.

“He has been absolutely phenomenal to go and play 122 games on the bounce,” Pearce told the South London Press.

“It just shows you the kind of professionalism he has and dedication to the way he plays.

“You see him in the gym every day after training, doing his weights and working on his body, and it’s no surprise he’s able to play 122 on the bounce.

“But I just want to emphasise how difficult that is to do that – to play that amount of games, to be selected, but also just to stay fit and stay in the team as long as he has done.

“He’ll be wanting to keep that record going as long as possible.”
