Millwall manager Gary Rowett has described talk of Portsmouth exploring a move for Ben Thompson as “speculation”.
It is understood that the League One side have made no official approach for the 25-year-old midfielder, who is inside the final 12 months of his contract in SE16.
The Portsmouth News claimed that Thompson’s salary was proving an “insurmountable mountain to climb when it comes to the prospect of getting a deal over the line”.
Rowett told the South London Press: “I’ve not read the article, there have probably been about 50 articles on Thommo from their end – which is not always ideal. I understand it, Thommo is a player who did really, really well.
“I understand he would be a popular one with fans, I’m sure there is a real clamour from the fanbase to bring Ben back. But, in reality, there is nothing for me to answer. As far as I’m concerned it’s just speculation.”
