Prolific striker nets as Charlton set up FA Cup tie against Brighton

Daniel Kanu scored his 28th goal of the season as Charlton booked their place in the fifth round of the FA Youth Cup on Tuesday night.

The Addicks U18 side will face Brighton after a 2-1 win at Accrington Stanley.

Kanu converted after Mack Reilly had nodded down Tolu Ladapo’s cross but Leslie Adekoya restored parity on the half-hour mark.

Jason Adigun restored Charlton’s lead following good work by Nathan Asiimwe and Karoy Anderson. Charlton substitute Tyreece Campbell hit the post in the 81st minute with Stanley keeper Louis Hood getting a vital touch. Hood was up quickly to make a double stop from Harvey Kedwell, the son of former Dons striker Danny, and Kanu.

Zak Emmerson’s long-range strike secured Brighton a 1-0 victory over Manchester City in midweek.
