QPR defender sees no future at Loftus Road as he looks set to quit west Londoners

BY ALESSANDRO SCHIAVONE

Toni Leistner is set to call time on his QPR career after it emerged that a number of clubs from Germany and England are vying for his signature.

The 29-year German centre-back has one year left on his three-year deal with QPR but fell out of favour after the emergence of Conor Masterson.

The player is ready for a new challenge and is understood to have no desire to return to west London after tasting Bundesliga football with Cologne from January to June.

However despite showing interest at first, the Germans decided not to take up the option to make his loan deal permanent.

Leistner joined QPR in the summer of 2018 and was straightaway named captain by former QPR manager Steve McLaren as he cemented a place in the heart of the defence throughout the 2018/2019 Championship campaign.

However in the wake of Mark Warburton’s appointment last summer Leistner was told that he did not figure in the club’s plans and was stripped off the captain’s armband before being dropped to the bench in the first games of last season.

In his 18 months with the Hoops, Leistner made 71 appearances for the Hoops and scored two goals.
