Schoolchildren receive a taste of authentic Shakespeare writing for free at the Globe Theatre

Nearly 20,000 schoolchildren have received  a taste of authentic Shakespeare writing for free at the Globe Theatre this autumn.

As part of the Playing Shakespeare with Deutsche Bank, schools from London have been able to attend a special version of A Midsummer Night’s Dream.

The shows are the first time many of the students have been to the theatre.

Each performance, which ran until October 12, saw the Globe theatre full with more than 1,000 young people, giving students the experience of live theatre and group activities sorely missed this past year.

The production of A Midsummer Night’s Dream was refocused for a younger audience as part of the 15th anniversary of the project.

In addition to tickets, students were also invited to a free one-hour practical workshops to explore the characters and language of A Midsummer Night’s Dream.

Additionally, teachers were offered free online Continued Professional Development sessions that offer inspiring ways to teach the play in a fun and supportive environment.

Free interactive online resources are also provided to support teachers and students studying Shakespeare.
