South London Press – We’ve got the old gang back
Staff of the South London Press, some going back as far as the 1970s, met up for a reunion at the Mad Hatter in Stamford Street, Southwark on Saturday.
Organiser and former head of production Tony Hagan, now living on the Isle of Wight, was one of those who travelled hundreds of miles to meet up and renew friendships with former work colleagues.
News editor Toby Porter said: “It was a joy to see some old and not-so-old faces and remember big scoops, near-misses, embarrassing incidents and pet peeves – most of which never made it into print. We are all hoping to meet up again next year. The story of this paper is set to march on and on.”

How time flies! Sadly, I don’t recognise anyone from the ’70s (1970-77) when I was the Camberwell, Peckham and Dulwich reporter, and then News Editor/Deputy Editor under the great Max Wall. Richard Woolveridge was a colleague who went on to edit the paper and do great things in Australia, and John Pienaar was a junior reporter. Great days!
