‘Knuckle down and fight it out’ – Dons boss addresses goalkeeping department following the signing of Sunderland loanee Bass

Johnnie Jackson has been asked about the goalkeeping department at AFC Wimbledon after they signed Sunderland stopper Alex Bass on a season-long loan last week.

Bass, 25, featured in his first game for the Dons on Saturday as he played the full 90 minutes in the goalless draw with Woking.

Nik Tzanev, 26, played the full 90 minutes against Met Police last Wednesday and was on the bench against Woking.

Nathan Broome, 21, has been missing from the past two matchday squads but played 45 minutes in the first pre-season game – a 1-0 win over League One side Reading.

“We have three good goalkeepers at the club,” Jackson told the South London Press.

“They’re going to have to knuckle down and fight it out. We will make decisions that we need to as a football club.

“But you can only start one and have one on the bench, so these are the situations that we find ourselves in.

“It’s the same with the outfield lads – there are two centre-back spots up for grabs between four or five of them.

“It’s the same all over the pitch. I said to the lads at the start of pre-season that they have six weeks to get into the team for Grimsby – this is what they’re playing for.”
