‘A spate’ – Neil Harris provides injury return updates as Millwall head into second international break

Millwall boss Neil Harris is only expecting Adam Mayor to be back in with a chance of being available after the international break to face Derby County.

The Lions have been without a handful of key players throughout the season, with winger Mayor, 19, suffering a hamstring injury during pre-season.

Midfielder Billy Micthell, who was a key player under Harris at the end of last season, has missed the start of the campaign with a quad injury.

Loan signing Josh Coburn was ruled out for up to two months due to the calf injury he picked up in the 1-0 defeat to Luton.

Liverpool loanee Calum Scanlon is also facing at least two months on the Millwall sidelines with a stress fracture in his back.

Tom Bradshaw has also been missing since the EFL Cup defeat at Leyton Orient with a serious hamstring injury.

Millwall host Derby on October 19 once the international break is over.

“We’re hoping that Adam Mayor is going to be the closest,” Harris told the South London Press.

“Whether he’s back for the first week for Derby, Plymouth and Stoke, I’m not sure, but he won’t be far behind that.

“We had to re-evaluate with Billy and Adam just because of the amount of time they have missed.

“Neither of them have featured since the end of last season. When we were thinking about having them back after the international break for that three-game week, realistically, it’s unrealistic with the amount of time needed to get them up to speed.

“Adam will be first and then we’re looking at a spate of lads coming back, with Tom, Josh, Shuan and Billy, they shouldn’t be too far behind, particularly with the few weeks during the international break.”

Club captain Shaun Hutchinson also missed the 1-0 defeat at Cardiff in midweek.

“Hutch tweaked his hamstring,” said Harris.

“It’s nothing serious, but with Hutch, even though he didn’t play the minutes last week, the change of schedule to come into a three-game week saw him pick up the injury at the weekend off the back of Saturday.

“It will only be a few weeks, but at the moment, we’re slightly light on personnel.

“It’s not ideal to lose your club captain at this stage.”
