Addicks chief seems relaxed about winger only being on a short-term contract

Corey Blackett-Taylor produced an eye-catching first-half performance in Charlton’s 1-1 draw against Gillingham last night – with manager Nigel Adkins seemingly relaxed about the winger’s future.

The 23-year-old only signed on a short-term deal until January.

And Blackett-Taylor, a free agent after leaving Tranmere in the summer, used his pace to break down the left and supplied the cross which Elliot Lee finished first time in the League One fixture in Kent.

The fact the former Aston Villa youngster is only on a contract in SE7 until January means his situation is up in the air.

Blackett Taylor scored and proved a handful in the 6-1 EFL Trophy win over Crawley Town. He had made two substitute appearances in League One for the South Londoners before starting at Gillingham.

Asked about the risk of losing Blackett-Taylor if he can chain strong displays together in the coming weeks, Adkins said: “We’ve had conversations. He’s loving his time with us. He gets well looked after, he is enjoying his football and we’ve got a real good group of players.

“From my point of view I’m just delighted I’ve managed to start him today.

“Whether he is going to be fit now for the weekend….we’re talking about players at different levels of fitness and different injury records and injury history. We’ve got to be mindful we don’t want to lose a talented player.”
