Alex Neil makes Millwall transfer window admission after Burnley defeat ends play-off hopes
Alex Neil says work for next season’s Millwall squad will start immediately after their 3-1 defeat at now Premier League side Burnley.
The Lions could have snuck into the play-off places if they had bettered the result of Coventry on Saturday, but Frank Lampard’s side beat Middlesbrough 2-0.
Despite Mihailo Ivanovic giving the South Londoners the early lead, a brace from Josh Brownhill and a second-half strike from Jaidon Anthony gave Scott Parker’s side 100 points in their Championship campaign.
Leeds won the title after a late goal in a 2-1 victory against relegated Plymouth.
Millwall finished eighth and two points off the play-offs.
“The work for next year will start right now,” Neil told BBC Radio London.
“Transfer windows will change things.
“People will come and go. From there, like any window, you want to make sure that by the end of it, you’re in a stronger position than what you were when you went into it.
“We have a lot of players still currently missing from the squad that would have a big effect in the team – they will be back for the start of next season.
“Along with additions we look to try to make in the summer.”
