‘At the very least’ – Exeter boss makes admission over Charlton Athletic squad ahead of League One clash
Exeter boss Gary Caldwell believes Charlton Athletic’s squad is capable of challenging for play-offs at the very minimum.
The Addicks head to St James Park 12th in the League One table, one place below Exeter on goal difference.
Nathan Jones’ side have picked up three straight draws in the division and have only picked up one win in their last six league outings.
“They are probably not in a position they would like to be,” admitted Caldwell.
“The finance that they have put into the club since Nathan came in, they have really improved as a team.
“The second half of last season, they were much better. They invested in the summer and the squad looks extremely strong.
“It looks like a team that is good enough to get play-offs at the very least and potentially more.
“They haven’t done that so far. We know they will be desperate to win the game to put themselves higher up the league.
“The league hasn’t taken shape yet. Two or three wins can put you up in a position or down in a position – the league isn’t settled.
“We need to make sure this month that we pick up points and pick up points to keep us in the hunt for promotion.
“What better way to do it than against teams in and around us – games we believe we can definitely win.”
