Bolton and Blackburn both miss out on Charlton defender Bauer – as German offered new deal
BY RICHARD CAWLEY
Lee Bowyer says that Patrick Bauer is not being sold – and that Charlton Athletic owner Roland Duchatelet has offered the German defender a new contract.
The 25-year-old is inside the final 12 months of his deal in SE7 and has been the subject of a bid from Championship new boys Blackburn Rovers.
And Bowyer has revealed that Bolton Wanderers also tried to do a deal for Bauer after agreeing a fee for Addicks striker Josh Magennis.
“Pat is not going,” said the Addicks boss. “The owner told Blackburn and Bolton what he wants for Pat and they are not going to pay what we are asking.
“Pat knows that. Pat has been offered a new deal and he is thinking about that at the moment.
“Bolton tried to take him as well after Josh. They made a deal with Josh and tried to do it with Pat as well.
“But on Saturday I had an email from the owner saying that Pat is staying. He said that Pat is a massive part of our defence and we need to keep him because he improves our chances of promotion.
“I’m over the moon about it. By keeping Pat he is showing what he wants from us this season.”
