Bookies fancy Charlton Athletic to be promotion challengers next season
BY RICHARD CAWLEY
Charlton Athletic might be a club in takeover limbo right now – but bookmakers still fancy them to be League One promotion challengers next season.
The Addicks lost to Shrewsbury Town in their play-off semi-final in May.
And a takeover by investors from the Australian Football Consortium, expected to be completed this summer, is still dragging on.
Lee Bowyer has been asked to continue in caretaker charge and current owner Roland Duchatelet is looking to cut his financial outlay with the SE7 outfit making heavy losses.
But most bookies have Charlton as third favourites to go up with their opponents on the opening day of the 2018-19 campaign – Sunderland – with the shortest odds.
Barnsley are second favourites. Portsmouth, Luton and Scunthorpe are priced slightly longer than the South London outfit.
Third favourites to go up but no staff or goal keeper or goal keeping coach. Oh and no sign of new owners rwally.
Don’t forget. Bet sensibly. I. E. , don’t bother.
