Bromley boss delighted with ‘vintage Andy Woodman’ performance in MK win

Bromley manager Andy Woodman praised his players’ commitment and execution in the wake of their 1-0 win at Milton Keynes on Saturday.
Bromley had an uphill battle when starman Michael Cheek saw his penalty saved, but Ben Thompson saved his blushes with a close-range finish just minutes later, the only goal of the game.
It was the Ravens’ first away win in five attempts in all competitions, having thrown away a three-goal lead during their visit to Salford a week earlier.
Woodman was unconvinced by claims that MK Dons were particularly strong opposition due to their high average possession at Stadium MK this season.
“I do not buy that 60 per cent possession; it’s a load of rubbish,” Woodman told Bromley’s official YouTube channel. “They are not hurting you. We could have 100 per cent possession if we kept playing it across the back, so I do not buy that.
“They had a lot of ball but did not really hurt us, it was all in front of us, a lot of sideways and backward passes by them, but we were brilliant, we executed the game plan well. The discipline of the team was excellent, we limited them to one shot.
“They are a really good team, let’s not get away from that, with some really good players and some riches that we have never had, so credit to this football club. But our boys worked on the game plan, executed the game plan and we got the three points.”
Woodman was filled with praise for his own players, and credited a fantastic team spirit amongst the reasons for them pushing so hard in this fixture-heavy schedule.
“There were a lot of good moments down both flanks,” said Woodman. “We connected our passes well and we played some good football at times. I know everyone says we do not sometimes which miffs me, but I thought we played football in the right areas.
“My only disappointment is that we did not have more, we were easily good enough for a couple more goals. Obviously we had the penalty and a couple of other chances, but I will take a 1-0 because that is vintage Andy Woodman.
“We played midweek as well on a heavy pitch, my players got in their beds at six o’clock in the morning, and I do not care what you say, it takes it out of them.
“These boys have gone again today, every single one of them, and credit to them. There is a spirit amongst this group, and it has been there since day one, but the spirit is fantastic.
“The fans were unbelievable, we are growing in numbers. They were brilliant and I am chuffed we gave them something to cheer about, I really am.
“We have to back this up with a home victory next week, that is the message now.”
