Bromley boss Woodman: Walsall late leveller was heartbreaking

Bromley boss Andy Woodman described Walsall’s late equaliser in their 2-2 draw on Tuesday night as “heartbreaking’.

The Ravens went behind five minutes before the end of the first half at the Poundland Bescot Stadium when Liam Gordon powered an effort beyond Grant Smith from the edge of the box.

Michael Cheek netted his ninth League Two goal of the season when the ball fell to him inside the box in the 59th minute and he fired past Tommy Simkin.

Crystal Palace loanee Danny Imray scored his first goal for the club 13 minutes before the end of normal time to put Woodman’s side 2-1 up.

But Walsall, who were second in the table heading into Tuesday’s game, rescued a point late on when defender David Okagbue turned the ball over the line from a scramble inside the penalty box.

“We’re not getting our rub of the green at the moment,” Woodman told Bromley’s YouTube channel. “It was a really good Bromley performance. We scrapped, battled and played some good football. We limited a team that has been scoring goals for fun to very few chances. We had it in our grasp.

“We were excellent all over the park. The three chances they kind of had were all from our own undoing a little bit. I have to get these boys drilled to stick with the game plan.

“We have to accept these things happen – it’s not nice. They’re throwing everything in there and it fell to them.

“It’s heartbreaking, but there were a lot of positives from us. We were good for the point, if not the three points.

“Walsall will probably be thinking they have got away with it. It was a point a lot of people didn’t have us down for before the game started.

“I’m going to take the positives out of it. That’s one loss in nine – it’s another draw.

“We will be alright. We’re playing a team who are second in the league – they’re a good team. “When you see what they’re bringing off the bench, you have to lick your wounds a little bit and think‘That’s not a bad result’.”
