Charlton Athletic attacker’s contract extended by a further 12 months

Charlton Athletic have activated a clause in Corey Blackett-Taylor’s contract which extends the winger’s stay in SE7 until the summer of 2024.

The 25-year-old has scored six goals and collected three assists this season.

Blackett-Taylor was the subject of a bid from Wigan Athletic in the January transfer window.

“We had an option on Corey and it was the right thing to do, to extend his contract,” said Charlton boss Dean Holden. “He’s played a lot of football since I’ve been in the job. He is a player that excites me with his pace.

“Like I find myself saying with a lot of players, he’s still got a lot of learning and work to do – working on one-v-one to improve that end product. But he has got the raw attributes to get the fans out of their seats and create exciting moments in the game. The consistency thing is the next step forward for him.

“I’m really delighted we’ve got him for another year, at least.”

Asked by the South London Press about interest at the start of the year, Holden said: “Yeah there was some in Corey. There was strong interest in him. We’ve got an option, as a club, which is in his current contract that we could extend it.

“He’s had a decent goalscoring return. We’re still looking for more from him and more assists. But he is front-footed in the way that he plays and he gets defenders into positions they don’t really want to get into, with his pace. Then it is about that end product and consistency. If he can get that in his game then he can go up another level, no problem for me.

“He is a really, really good player and I love working with him.”
