Charlton Athletic boss expects trio to all secure new contracts

Charlton Athletic manager Lee Bowyer is set to get his new contract offer this week – and expects Johnnie Jackson and Andy Marshall to also be handed new terms.

All three members of the management team are out of contract at the end of June.

Jackson has been assistant boss ever since Bowyer initially took the job in a caretaker capacity just over 12 months ago.

Marshall was appointed goalkeeping coach in the summer after Lee Turner moved to Millwall.

“I had a message saying they [Charlton] are going to be proposing something to me this week,” said Bowyer.

“But for me, the most important thing is we just keep winning games. That’s the priority for me. The contract thing, that will sort itself out – I’m sure it will.

“I want us to try and go the rest of the season unbeaten and get promoted.

“All three of us [are out of contract]. But, again, I think they will get offered new contracts. They should do.

“What Andy has done with Dillon [Phillips] has been excellent. Dillon was good again at the weekend. He was very good with his feet, his passing from the back was very good.

“Andy works hard, just like all of us.”

Charlton Athletic reported an operating loss of £13.3million for the 2017-18 campaign – with owner Roland Duchatelet’s loan standing at £62m.

The Addicks issued their financial accounts last week and it showed they lost more than £250,000 a week.

Duchatelet  also charged two per cent interest on his loan, made via his company Staprix, which worked out at £770,000 over that 12-month period.

The Addicks owner has implemented cost-cutting measure in the current campaign – claiming it will make the League One club more attractive to potential buyers.

Charlton had an operating loss of £14.3m for the 2016-17 season.
