Charlton Athletic boss has no plans to recall in-form Stags midfielder

Charlton Athletic manager Lee Bowyer has no plans to recall George Lapslie from his loan spell at Mansfield Town – despite being short for options in the middle of the park.

Darren Pratley still has two matches to run of his suspension with Andrew Shinnie and Ben Watson both sidelined with injuries.

Manchester United recalled Dylan Levitt last week.

We had already reported that Charlton were ready to listen to offers for Lapslie in this window. The 23-year-old is due to be out of contract at the end of June.

Lapslie took his goal tally to six for the Stags as he netted in Saturday’s 2-1 win over Salford.

Addicks manager Lee Bowyer was unhappy at the lack of physicality shown by his players in Friday’s 2-0 loss to Accrington Stanley.

“We were soft there [in midfield] at the weekend – we didn’t compete well enough,” he said. “If there’s anything you can’t take away from George it is how well he competes.

“But we have got Shinnie coming back soon and Pratley back in a couple of games. We’ve got Watson back soon. We have got those three coming back and we are trying to strengthen in that area as well. If George comes back I don’t think he’ll be playing.

“Even he has said it, that it is time for him to establish his own career somewhere else now – which he’s doing at Mansfield. I hope he goes somewhere and kickstarts his career. He is a good lad who gives everything. There is no point him coming here and sitting watching football – that’s no good.

“We’ve got a tiny bit of money left [to spend in the window] and it just depends how generous other clubs will be to loan someone. I mean very generous! Hopefully we can get something done.”
