Charlton Athletic boss on selection news for Ipswich and discusses Clare surgery

Charlton Athletic manager Johnnie Jackson is expecting Elliot Lee to be back available for Saturday’s League One fixture at Ipswich Town.

The Addicks end their 2021-22 campaign at Portman Road and will be looking to finish in the top half.

Jackson’s side are 12th and know they cannot be caught if they take all three points against the Tractor Boys.

“Hopefully Elliot is due to train today, so we’re hopeful he can be involved,” said Jackson. “Corey [Blackett-Taylor] was ill [last weekend] but he’ll be available. Ryan Inniss [missed the EFL Awards on Sunday] had an illness. Scotty [Fraser] will still be out and Ben Purrington is unlikely to be involved.

“Sean Clare had a procedure and he won’t be involved.”

Clare revealed recently he was having surgery to remove a birthmark from his face due to the risk of skin cancer.

“We brought it forward so that he’ll be fine to start back when we do,” said Jackson. “He is going to be laid up for a bit and we thought it was best to get it done as soon as possible. It is the sensible decision. If we’d been involved at either end of the table then we’d have probably had to hold off from it. But because of where we are it is the right thing to do.

“It is a big deal in the boy’s life and we have to do right by him as well.”
