Charlton Athletic defender gets trophy for stunning goal at start of March
Charlton Athletic defender Lewis Page is the Sky Bet League One Goal of the Month winner for March, receiving 47 per cent of the public vote for his stunning goal that opened the scoring in a 2-0 win over Plymouth.
The left-back’s early strike saw Lee Bowyer making a winning start to his spell in caretaker charge.
Lead Sky Bet EFL Goal of the Month judge and Sky Sports pundit Don Goodman said: “Lewis has had a really tough time of it with injuries since joining Charlton, so this goal would have been fantastic for his confidence.
“To score a goal of this quality just three minutes into his first Valley start for over a year shows the quality that he has, and Lee Bowyer will be delighted at the way he’s worked his way back into contention.”
Page said: “It’s great to get the recognition up against some really strong opposition. It was very early on in the game and was my first game back at home in a long time so it was nice to start off with that.
“I brought it down and it just fell nicely so I just thought, ‘why not?’ and hit it. I remember seeing it just dipping underneath the bar because I thought it was going over at the time, but it just dipped and snuck in so I’m happy.”
Page beat off competition from Gillingham’s Lee Martin and Rochdale’s Steve Davies.
