Charlton Athletic key duo walking disciplinary tightrope at Morecambe
Ben Purrington and Akin Famewo are both walking a disciplinary tightrope ahead of Charlton Athletic’s trip to Morecambe tomorrow night.
Left wing-back Purrington has scored in his last two League One appearances and opened the scoring in Saturday’s 2-0 victory over table-topping Plymouth Argyle at The Valley.
Norwich City loanee Famewo was cleared to play in that fixture after his caution the previous weekend at Burton Albion – for time-wasting – was switched to Purrington.
Both players are on four bookings and if they collect a caution in midweek they would serve an immediate one-match ban. But the midweek round of fixtures is also the cut-off for that punishment to kick in.
“If they were to get booked on Tuesday they would miss a game,” Jackson said to the South London Press. “If they get through it, I believe it then goes to 10 [yellow cards before a ban]. So they need to get through the game.
“You don’t want them to get a silly one for time-wasting or dissent. But if they have to make a tackle, then make the tackle. I don’t want to stop them defending or doing what they normally do. They just need to avoid anything stupid, if they can.”
Jayden Stockley will sit out the Morecambe match as he serves the second of a three-game ban for his red card at Burton Albion. His final match on the sidelines will be Saturday’s trip to Shrewsbury Town.
