Charlton Athletic “revoked” deal for AFC Wimbledon man – former Addicks boss Karl Robinson

BY RICHARD CAWLEY

Oxford United manager Karl Robinson has claimed he had lined up a January deal for Lyle Taylor to come to Charlton Athletic.

The former AFC Wimbledon striker scored from the penalty spot in tonight’s 1-1 draw at The Valley.

The South London Press revealed last December that Taylor was on Robinson’s wanted list. A lack of support in the January window was cited as a reason for the Liverpudlian eventually stepping down to take on the Oxford job.

Robinson said: “The first half was even, there really wasn’t too much in it. The second half we were the better team.

“Ironically we went with two up top. We can’t cope with Charlton Athletic – this is a good team here. That diamond has been very prominent and I’ve seen you destroy teams.

“Josh [Cullen] is the best six in the league. I’ll argue with anybody that Tariqe Fosu is up there with the best 10s in the league.

“Everyone knows Lyle Taylor was one of the ones I was desperate to sign Christmas last year but it got revoked unfortunately, or he’d have been here six months earlier.”
