Charlton Athletic striker Miles Leaburn to miss rest of League One campaign

Miles Leaburn’s quad injury has ruled the Charlton Athletic striker out of the rest of this season.

The Addicks striker, 21, has scored 10 goals in 32 appearances in the current campaign.

Leaburn was not available for first-team action until the start of October due to a major hamstring injury which required surgery last season and sidelined him from the end of November 2023.

Asked about his season, Charlton manager Nathan Jones said: “It has been a productive one because it was probably more productive than last year. It is a step up. He has been part of a real progression and evolution process here. And he is one that will only get better.

“He needs a certain amount of work around his body, and so on, to get the durability back but he has been fantastic – in how he has trained and come back from that, mentally and physically.

“It was really innocuous how he picked up this injury and that is the frustrating thing for us.

“He is still a young boy who is learning the game and he’s at a fantastic place to learn, because we believe he is going to have a certain level of career….a very good level of career. But it is a process to get there and we’ve got to be very careful with that process.”

Charlton have offered Leaburn a new contract which has not been signed. The former Chelsea youngster is out of contract at the end of June 2026.

Asked about whether he faces another summer of extensive rehab, Jones said: “It won’t necessarily be the same because the gravity of this injury is nowhere near the previous one.

“And he’s had a really good conditioning block before he picked up this injury, so he’s in a far better place than the previous injury. He has to come through that and there will be a little bit of time for that to heal and then we build him back up so that we have fit and flying for pre-season, which wasn’t the case last year.”

Vice-captain Lloyd Jones missed Tuesday’s 2-1 win at Mansfield with a tight calf. Portsmouth loanee Tom McIntyre ably deputised.

“Lloyd is closer today than he was on Tuesday,” said Jones. “There’s a decision around him, we’ll see. We want to be careful but we also want to get as many of our best players on the pitch as well.”
