Charlton Athletic to face AFC Wimbledon in FA Women’s Cup with Palace also progressing to fourth round
Charlton Athletic will head to AFC Wimbledon in the FA Cup fourth round after both clubs won their ties last weekend.
Late goals from Elisha N’Dow and Melissa Johnson secured a 3-1 win for the Addicks over Milton Keynes at The Oakwood.
Johnson converted a 34th-minute penalty after skipper Emily Simpkins had seen an earlier spot-kick saved by Chloe Sansom.
Mollie Coupar levelled with 67 minutes on the clock but injury-time finishes from N’Dow and Johnson set up a January 29 trip to the Dons.
“Credit to MK Dons, they gave us a fantastic game,” said Charlton manager Karen Hills.
“We knew from the first minute it was not going to be easy and you could see that conditions played a little bit of a part.
“Obviously we where fortunate enough to have a couple of penalties – we scored one and missed one. We knew we where going to be in a good place in terms of fitness going into the second half.
“We have been a team that has been able to score goals in the latter stages of the game and the players needed to believe that they had the quality to do that.”
Ellie Dorey scored AFC Wimbledon’s 66th-minute clincher as they knocked out Gillingham.
Crystal Palace had no problems progressing as they thumped Watford 5-1 at home. Annabel Blanchard (two), Hollie Olding, Elise Hughes and Polly Doran, scored for Dean Davenport’s side.
Eagles goalkeeper Natalia Negri said: “I don’t start many games so it was important for me, but it was our first game back [in 2023] and it was important for us to get off to a good start.”
The Eagles head to Durham in round four.
The FA Women’s Championship resumes on Sunday.
Palace are at home to leaders London City (6pm) while Charlton head to Blackburn Rovers (2pm).
