Charlton boss Bowyer: ‘We need stability’

Charlton manager Lee Bowyer says the club needs stability as its players complete a first
week of training in preparation for games later this month.
All but three of his squad returned to distanced training this week – and the EFL will vote on Monday over whether to allow contact training to start.
Fixtures haven’t been confirmed yet, but if they resume in the same order, potentially on June 20, the Addicks’ first match back is scheduled to be at Hull.
But owner Tahnoon Nimer has made no public statements for two months amid a possible
£12million takeover by former Swansea chairman Huw Jenkins – who had a contract giving
him exclusivity over a potential deal, though that has since expired.
Bowyer has insisted his players are fully focused on their jobs – winning enough of the remaining nine games to keep the Valley club in the Championship.
But he pleaded: “We need stability. If we are selling, we need to sell to someone who will take
care of this great club – who will bring some stability.
“At the moment, we do not have that. It has been going on too long now. I have not spoken to Tahnoon Nimer for a month – but in all my time here I only spoke to Roland Duchatelet three or four times All we are being told is the wages should be OK for June. But until the money actually goes in, you never
know.
“We have not been told about the Jenkins deal. All I am doing is concentrating on getting
the players ready when called upon.

“We are working hard. The players will be ready for the first game – whenever that is
confirmed.
“The players are enjoying being back and everyone is safe.
“One squad member who did not want to come to London has not returned and we will speak
to him and work on that.
“Another two whose contracts come to an end in July do not want to risk injury. Obviously we
are talking to them too, and trying to change that.
“Everyone else is fit and has passed all the tests. We are in a good place at the moment.
“We had everyone fit just as the games stopped in March. The players have been like big kids in
a sweet shop. The atmosphere has been great. They are enjoying the sessions we are putting on
and working hard. They are a bit rusty with the ball, but they are getting there.”
Sam Field (knee) – on loan from West Brom – can come back into the reckoning.
“I am still speaking to his club about the best way forward,” said Bowyer. “They have been really good with us so we should be fine.”
