Charlton boss gives verdict on which clubs still in Championship survival fight – and assesses Luton Town fixture

BY RICHARD CAWLEY

Lee Bowyer has given his verdict on the Championship dogfight – and feels eight clubs are in drop danger.

The Charlton chief thinks that the threat of relegation to League One stretches as high as 17th-placed Hull City.

Only the Tigers have a better goal difference than the Addicks out of the clubs in the bottom eight.

Asked how important that could be, Bowyer replied: “Yeah, it’s going to play a part because it is tight down there – isn’t it?

“It’s like an extra point and we’re happy with that.

“It just shows when we were in that difficult period that although we were losing, which isn’t good, but it ain’t so bad when it is by one goal. That adds up at the end.

“I think Hull could get pulled into it. They are not on the best of runs at the moment. If that carries on then teams below only need a couple of wins and they’ll be the same as us.

“I did think QPR might be in it as well but they got a good result at the weekend, I can’t see them getting dragged in now.”

Back-to-back victories have breathed new life into Luton’s hopes of avoiding an instant return to English football’s third tier.

“I don’t look at this one as any more important than the one after,” said Bowyer. “We want to get the right result that keeps that gap between us and them – that’s important.

“But if we win it doesn’t mean that we’re going to stay up, and if we lose it doesn’t mean we’re going to go down. Either way we’ve still got 12 games to go after that.

“Nothing changes for us. We know the points we need to get to. It’s how we do it that is the important thing – not who we do it against. We have to do our job and get those points, it’s not about looking at one game – it’s about the bigger picture.”

Well, our GD may be one of the best of these teams but if CAFC continually ships 2 or even more goals then soon it will not be worth a point.
That is exactly how CAFC are setting out and try not to lose but defend so deep and yes even at home.
Why not try to go on the offensive, just for a while!!!!
