Charlton boss has message as he gives verdict on Manchester United loanee’s first appearance

Lee Bowyer has once again urged patience as Dylan Levitt beds into his Charlton Athletic side.

The on-loan Manchester United midfielder made his debut in Tuesday’s EFL Cup loss at West Ham United – and his intercepted pass led to Sebastien Haller’s second goal.

But Bowyer saw plenty to like from the Wales international.

“We have to be patient,” said the Addicks chief. “He is a 19-year-old kid who has just moved down south and it’s his first loan.

“He’s a good player and we saw parts of that the other night.

“He gave the ball away and they scored – but that happens in football unfortunately, especially against Premier League players. You see the difference, they won it just inside our half and went bang, bang, bang – goal. That was the level we were playing against. Would a League One team do that to you? Maybe not.

“He gave the ball away a few times, but they all did. You just hope when they do the other team doesn’t score because when they don’t it isn’t so noticeable.

“There were some good things from him. He was very calm in possession, he looked to play forward a lot, which has been lacking with us and his range of passing is good. He breaks the lines very well.

“He’s going to improve. He had only trained with us for three days before the match and he was with new players. He looked a bit nervous, but I could see that in all of them [in the first half].

“He’ll be very, very good for us.”
