Caretaker Charlton boss Lee Bowyer is disappointed after what appears to be a recurrence of the injury that kept Tariqe Fosu out at the end of last season.
The winger, who missed a large part of the run-in in the last campaign, limped out of the South Londoners’ 2-0 friendly win over Crawley Town on Saturday.
The 22-year-old was the Addicks second-top scorer last year, and was a big miss during his time on the side-lines.
“Tariqe, hopefully it’s not as bad as we’re thinking but if it’s his hamstring again then something is wrong somewhere,” explained Bowyer.
“He’s done his hamstring. He’s pulled his hamstring, or done something to it – it’s a bit tight. We’ll know more on Monday. Hopefully it’s just a bit of fatigue or something.
“He didn’t finish the season because of his hamstring, we’ve had all summer to fix that problem. You can’t just be breaking down after three games. Something is wrong somewhere if that is the case. I’m hoping it isn’t.
“He’ll be in tomorrow and we’ll have more of an idea tomorrow or on Monday. But I’m hoping it’s not going to be his hamstring because it’s not good.
“He’s an exciting player,” added the Charlton chief.
“He’s dangerous, he makes things happens. To lose him before the season even starts from an injury that he had at the back-end of the season – that shouldn’t be happening.”
Striker Lyle Taylor, a summer acquisition from AFC Wimbledon, was also forced off with a knock at East Grinstead Town’s East Court, but it’s not thought to be serious – with the player himself telling the South London Press that he just had a bruised foot.
“I think Lyle will be OK, it’s more of a knock than anything,” confirmed Bowyer.
