Charlton key attacker Campbell had set pre-season sights on winning individual awards honour
Tyreece Campbell has revealed that one of his targets this season was to win a personal accolade – and the exciting Charlton Athletic attacker did exactly that.
The 21-year-old South Londoner won the League One club’s Young Player of the Season award and was second in the Player of the Season accolade which was claimed by centre-back Lloyd Jones.
Asked about his performances being recognised by the Charlton fanbase in their voting, Campbell said: “I was happy. Before the season started I wrote up goals in my book at home – and I was aiming for the Young Player and also the main Player of the Year.
“I’ve progressed well. I’m playing a new position. I’d like to thank the gaffer for helping me and trusting me.
“I wasn’t playing that much – or that well – towards the end of last season. I gave myself the best chance in the summer – I worked hard with my brother in the gym to come back in the best shape I could do.”
Campbell scored seven goals in the league campaign as Charlton finished fourth in the final standings.

The SE7 outfit now embark on a two-legged encounter against Wycombe off the back of a 3-1 victory over Burton Albion.
“It’s as good feeling,” said Campbell. “The gaffer said he wanted us to finish strong going into the play-offs and we did that.
“The last time (Charlton were in the play-offs in 2019) I was younger at the club. I was watching as a supporter and it was a nice feeling to see the team go up. It is nice to be involved this time.”
Charlton defeated Wycombe in both matches in the regulation season, including a 4-0 away success in the third to last fixture.
Asked if that would be a psychological advantage, Campbell replied: “Maybe….hopefully.”
