Charlton skipper George Dobson wants glamour FA Cup third round tie

George Dobson wants Charlton to land a Premier League giant in the FA Cup after his blockbuster finish helped them see off Cray Valley on Wednesday night.

The Addicks need to defeat Gillingham in round two at the start of December to be in with a chance of landing a plum tie.

Last season Charlton knocked Brighton out of the EFL Cup before losing in the last-eight at Manchester United.

“You’re one away from a big tie and we all know how wonderful it was last season going up to United and taking all those thousands of fans,” said Dobson.

“It would be amazing to get into the third round hat and potentially have another amazing occasion for everyone at the club.”

Dobson scored in midweek with his weaker foot.

Asked about his penchant for the spectacular, he told the South London Press: “I need to save them for the league, don’t I? The left has been a little bit better than the right in training so when it came across I thought I’d give it a swing.

“It was a very professional performance. It was obviously a little bit awkward when they scored against the run of play.

“We scored a lot of goals and proved a point after the first tie. It was an enjoyable evening.

“Cray Valley have done amazing and it was a proper cup tie.

“We had quite a few chances in the first half and with the slope on the pitch it was going to make a big difference when they tired a little bit.

“He (Michael Appleton) told us to be ruthless (as part of his half-time teamtalk) – to get the second and the third. He wanted us to get as many goals as possible and we did that really well in the second half.”
