Chelsea complete second January transfer window signing

Chelsea have completed the £35million signing of Monaco centre-back Benoit Badiashile.

The Blues have handed the 21-year-old Frenchman a seven-and-a-half-year deal at Stamford Bridge.

He featured more than 150 times for Monaco after making his debut as a 17-year-old.

Graham Potter’s side have already signed Ivory Coast forward David Datro Fofana from Molde.

After completing the switch to the Premier League, Badiashile said: said: “I’m very happy to be here at Chelsea. I’m so excited to start playing for this club. I can’t wait to see the fans and start playing in the best league in the world.”

Chairman Todd Boehly added: “We’re delighted to welcome Benoit to Chelsea.

“He’s an excellent young player who has quickly established a strong reputation for himself and has a huge amount of experience for his young age. We are sure he will form an important part of our team in the years ahead.”

Chelsea are without first-team defenders Wesley Fofana, Reece James and Ben Chilwell through injury.

West Londoners Chelsea lost 1-0 to Manchester City on Thursday evening, with a goal from Riyad Mahrez giving Pep Guardiola’s side all three points.
