Class act! Jed Wallace reveals post-match gesture by former Millwall boss Neil Harris after Saturday’s 2-1 win over Leeds

Jed Wallace revealed that Neil Harris sent each of the Millwall players a congratulatory message straight after the 2-1 victory over Leeds United.

The Lions legend resigned as boss on Thursday.

Wallace played his part in ensuring caretaker Adam Barrett had a successful start as he slammed home from the penalty spot.

Tom Bradshaw notched the second goal to end a seven-game winless streak.

Harris went into Millwall’s Calmont Road training ground on Friday to say his farewells.

“It was really emotional, a lot of the staff were in tears,” said Wallace, pictured below. “He was an absolute legend of a player for the club and as a manager he has been unbelievable.

“I didn’t see it coming.

“Speaking to him on Friday you realise the lows these managers go through. He’s in the training ground at six in the morning. You forget these guys are normal people with kids and lives.

“He just said he felt like he needed a break. He’s left the club in a better place than he found it.

“What sums him up is that he has texted everyone individually and said: ‘Well done today lads, proud of you – what a brilliant performance’. There’s probably a lot of managers after they have left hoping the club will lose. But he is a class act.

“It’s a new era, the club moves on. He’d be the first to say that no-one is bigger than the club.

“It’s a new experience for me. I’m looking forward to learning new things – different styles of play. I think the manager maybe felt he had done such a good job and we had maybe gone as far as we could – it was time for us to have a new challenge.”

Wallace admitted he would be keeping an eye on the managerial rumours.

“We [the players] do talk to each other about it,” he said. “I’ll be like you guys – on Twitter and seeing whose name is in the frame and not in the frame.

“I imagine the club will speak to a few of the senior lads in the dressing room. I’ve been here four years and it’s been such a settled club, we’ve had so much success in that time it is a bit of a transition. When I was at Wolves it was a little bit more up and down.

“The chairman pulled us today [Saturday] and had a good chat with us. He said the manager has left an unbelievable group of players, which he has. He’s left it in a great spot, hopefully someone will come in and push us on.”
