Corey Blackett-Taylor is claiming a brace after dubious goal at Morecambe and reveals the reason for his withdrawal

Charlton winger Corey Blackett-Taylor said he was withdrawn from the win at Morecambe as a precaution.

The Addicks man found the back of the net at least once during the first period of the 4-1 triumph on the north west coast.

He’s claiming a brace, with Charlton’s second goal being awarded to him despite seemingly going in via the boot of Shrimps midfielder Jensen Weir.

He certainly scored Charlton’s third of the evening just before the break – but was taken off in the second period moments after he was seen clutching at his right hamstring.

Speaking to Charlton TV, Blackett-Taylor explained: “It’s a bit too early to update [on his potential injury].

“I came off as a precaution as I felt a bit of tightness. I didn’t want it to get any worse so me and the physio made the best decision to come off when I did.”

The win was Charlton’s first in six league games. They had recently gone nearly eight hours without scoring and hit the back of the net more than once for the first time in eight outings.

Blackett-Taylor is now up to eight goals for the campaign – assuming his first goal of the evening isn’t wrenched away. Ryan Inniss’ deep header was searching for Blackett-Taylor at the far-post, but Weir appeared to get the final touch on replays.

“I do remember getting a slight touch on the ball so I’m happy they’ve marked me down for two,” he added.

“We’ll just see what happens. I’m not really too focused on that. I’m just happy that the team won.

“As soon as we scored early, we said to ourselves we’ll try and get as many goals as possible and finish them off. On a personal note, I’m happy to get the goals as well.

“We haven’t scored much in the last few games so we thought about getting balls into the box and me, personally, getting to the back post. I looked up and caught eyes with Tyreece [Campbell]. He found me and I was able to finish it off [for Charlton’s third].

“We said make this one be the turning point where we try and get a win and then go on a run. The next few games, we’ll keep the same performance up as today.”

The former Aston Villa and Tranmere Rovers man recently had a one-year extension option triggered on his contract.

“It was something that we were discussing for a while,” he explained.

“With the stuff going on in the background, it was hard for everyone to sort that out, but we’ve been able to do that now. I can just kick on and try and finish the season as strong as possible, knowing that next season is sorted now.”
