Croydon Harriers U17 and U20 athletes took a well-earned third place in their club UK Development League at the Withdean Stadium, Brighton, on Sunday and retained third place overall.
They just edged hosts Brighton and Hove into fourth pace with 526pts to their 524pts. Had two team-minded Croydon girls not filled in in the javelin, the club would have finished fourth.
Winners Crawley netted 563 points, while Havering, with 549 points, stayed at the top and remained at the top. Croydon athletes achieved event points maxima, with 16 A-string winners, including relays.
U17 sprinter Farrell Fabusiwa scorched his way to a stunning 200m win in 21.8 seconds, 0.9 clear of his closest challenger.
B-string colleague Amari-Jai edged his 23.1-second win on the dip. Farrell also made it a person double on the dip in the 100m to win in 10.7sec.
The U20 women’s 100m hurdles was a happy hunting ground for the club, with A and B winners Lia Bonsu heading a really competitive race in 14.7 seconds.
B-string partner Jasmyn Brewster clocking 16.8sec. Later, Jia dominated the triple jump, clearing 11.78m and 1.62m beyond the reach of any of her rivals.
U17 twins Ada and Ama Amiaka notched up valuable points too.
Ada Amiaka won the triple jump at 9.66m.
Ama Amiak took the 80m hurdles in 12.0seconds and also won the B high jump and both girls contributed to the club’s first place in the 4x300m relay.
U20 Kyron Bailee-Burke shone with a sound 800m win in 2:02.7 and also achieved a fine 400m PB of 50.9 seconds, edged out of victory by 0.2 seconds.
He finished with Harriers’ fastest leg in the mixed 4x400m relay.
There were several other encouraging field events efforts, topped by Evelyn Bosoko’s huge win in the U17 girl’s hammer.
Her heave of 47.69m left her rivals out of sight by 25.10m or more and edged into the UK top ten.
U20 discus thrower Kheyla Ekwe registered a notable win, too. Her best throw of 36.46m put her 2.25m clear of the rest.
