Crystal Palace boss asked about Guehi and Nketiah red card decisions in win over Brighton

Oliver Glasner said Marc Guehi could do with some rest after being issued a red card in Crystal Palace’s 2-1 win over Brighton.

Guehi was one of two Palace players who were shown their marching orders by referee Anthony Taylor at Sehurst Park.

Eddie Nketiah was brought on in the 68th minute for Jean-Philippe Mateta and lasted just 10 minutes before he was sent off for two yellow card offences.

Nketiah was issued his first yellow in the 69th minute for simulation, going down inside the area when beating Pervis Estupinan to the ball.

The summer signing from Arsenal, who joined in a £30million deal, was then issued his second yellow and a red card nine minutes later for a high foot in a challenge with Brighton defender Jan Paul van Hecke.

Palace were reduced to nine men in the 90th minute when Guehi was shown a second yellow card for a reckless foul on Brajan Gruda.

Daichi Kamada and Ismaila Sarr acted as wing-backs in the 12 minutes of second-half additional time, with Joel Ward, Jefferson Lerma and Ben Chilwell playing as centre-backs.

Brighton were reduced to 10 men when van Hecke brought down Kamada in the 96th minute after the Japanese midfielder had touched the ball beyond the Dutch defender.

Palace saw out the game and recorded a league double over Brighton for the first time since 1933.

“I always know that we can’t get these players back,” said Glasner.

“It’s a decision. I make many more mistakes when I’m the referee in training games.

“It is how it is. It’s a chance for other players at City – they get a bit of time to rest.

“Marc has played every single game. He’s just banned for one game, so it might be a good time for him to get a few days of rest and be ready for the end of the season.”
