Crystal Palace boss confirms youngster has penned fresh terms and makes Daniel Munoz future admission

Oliver Glasner has confirmed that Caleb Kporha has signed a new deal with Crystal Palace.

The Eagles have handed Kporha fresh terms after making four appearances this season under Oliver Glasner.

Kporha, 18, is an England U19 international and made his first start for the South Londoners in the 3-2 EFL Cup quarter final defeat at Arsenal in December.

“He did,” said Glasner when asked if Kporha had signed a new deal at Selhurst Park.

“I talked to him before he extended his contract – he is in the right environment for his personal development.

“He’s 18. If you go back half a year, he struggled with big hamstring injuries.

“He was out for seven or eight months.

“When he came back, Dougie Freedman told me: ‘There is a young kid doing really well in the academy.’

“He didn’t play many minutes for our youth team last season and all of a sudden he was part of our group and doing really well.

“We’re always looking at what’s best for his individual personal development.

“He isn’t in the squad tomorrow, he’s with the U21s, because he needs minutes to play for his personal development.

“It would be easy for me to say: ‘You’re on the bench tomorrow. Maybe you don’t get minutes and next week it will be the same’

“He needs the minutes and we want this because we see a huge talent.”

Glasner’s first-choice wing-back has been Daniel Munoz, with the Colombian making 35 appearances this season in all competitions.

When asked about Munoz’s future, with speculation linking him with a move in the upcoming summer, and if that meant Kporha will head out on loan, Glasner said: “He [Munoz] will [be here]. He will.

“We will think about the loan in the summer. It’s a great set-up for a young player to be right behind the starter.

“Very often, you have a back-up, and the young player won’t get minutes. Daniel is very consistent in being available and his performances.

“Let’s see what happens. It’s a good situation being the first back-up.”
